Barcelona’s Secret Stores

Barcelona’s Secret Stores

A guide to the most precious independent boutiques in Barcelona.

I spent over ten years living in Barcelona and one of my favourite activities on my days off was just wandering the city, discovering new areas, shops and restaurants. I used to work in a luxury independent boutique in the el Borne neighbourhood and loved browsing the stores there, always finding quirky unique pieces whether it was clothes, homewares or a natural beauty product. I hate when I’m travelling getting stuck on the main shopping street with the same stores I can find at home. I also love to support independent businesses so this is a mini guide to the best independent shops in Barcelona if you are ever visiting be sure to check them out.

Carolina Blue
Carrer Rec 34, El Borne

This gorgeous homewares store run by Mother and daughter team Carolina and Maria Luisa has everything you could ever dream of to create the perfect boho mediterranean home. Filled with original homeware by local ceramicists, wicker makers and crafters as well as upcycled cushions made from antique fabrics along with glass lamps and natural beauty products. All combining to create a warm minimalist rustic ambience you won’t want to leave.

Bon Vent
Carrer de l'Argenteria 41, El Borne

This family run boutique is dedicated to craftsmanship from the local area. Bon Vent meaning Good Wind in Catalan feels like a store that has existed for hundreds of years. Walking through the doors is like stepping back in time. If you are looking for gifts or an alternative souvenir this store has a wide selection of high quality products to choose from, blankets, handmade soaps, jewellery and pretty little ornaments. If you are visiting in December it's Christmas selection is beyond beautiful.

Henna Morena
Carrer de l'Esparteria12, El Borne

Probably the most beautiful store I have ever been to. Even if you don’t find anything you like, the decor alone will make you want to move in. Henna Morena is one of my favourite natural beauty havens. This store is dedicated to healing your hair naturally and has a mix of henna dyes, natural shampoos along with silk pillow cases and gentle hair brushes to help you condition and maintain your mane. Inspired by Mediterranean nature, Henna Morena uses ingredients from local olive trees, almonds, rosemary, orange tree, thyme, sage and grapes for its products.

Les Topettes
Carrer de Joaquín Costa, 33 El Raval

Founded by couple Lucia and Oriol, this “Perfumeria” is filled with delightful scents for body and home. Carefully selected perfumes, colognes and candles from independent makers have been curated to create this unique space a few minutes walk from MACBA (the museum of contemporary art). The fusion between old and new makes this space an absolute treasure trove of niche perfumes and cosmetics.

Le Swing Vintage
Calle dels Lledó, 6 El Gotic

Le Swing Vintage is an Aladdin’s cave of high end vintage clothing and accessories. You never know what you might find in here, but whatever it is it will be one of a kind. The store was founded in 1999 and mixes specialised luxury pieces with more contemporary second hand clothes. The dark gothic interior houses an eclectic selection of sunglasses, bags and clothing all looking for new homes.

These are just a few of the independent designers, makers and stores in Barcelona that are well worth a visit if you love natural beauty and skincare, artisan and handcrafted products and luxury vintage fashion.
